Malatibai Bedekar, who used the pen name Vibhavari Shirurkar, was born Balutai Anant Khare in 1905. She graduated from Karve University (now S.N.D.T.) at seventeen and later undertook scholarly research on 'Alankarshastra', an aspect of Sanskrit aesthetics.
